Method for determining the thermal conductivity of <i>in situ</i> formation rock using drilling cuttings

In this paper, a method for determining the thermal conductivity of in situ formation rock, which combines experimental measurements, theoretical model predictions, and geophysical logging porosity, is presented to predict rocks (this effectively model, geological conditions, referred as “ETG,” where E T G conditions). 24 drilling cuttings samples from down depth 2000 m were selected transient plane source tests, an effective was used corresponding each formation. The predicted mudstone 2.31–3.27 W/(m K), that sandstone 2.40–3.69 K). An independent-samples t test carried out between results ETG prediction those diagenetic mineral-theory model. showed there no statistically significant differences two groups (P > 0.05) fitting degree high. mean-square error solid conductivities determined by methods about 0.3, indirectly demonstrates has high accuracy predicting rock. Therefore, likely become popular engineering practice.
